Telephony

Fairly straight forward, although you need to juggle a contact list for the various bits involved. Telstra provide a connection up to 500 metres from your property boundary (and we used all of that). You have to provide the trench - 400mm deep, going from where they tell you (usually a pit outside your property fence) to where you want it. Digging that was pretty easy, used a small stand-on tool ("Dingo") with a trencher attached (a chain-saw for dirt).

Keep the trench easy to drive along (to put the trencher on it and later to pull the cable into it). After the cable is dropped in, you are responsible to fill it in (do that as quick as possible, the dirt "crusts up" with time, so it is easier to move sooner), plus the trench is a hazard.

All up a fairly easy process, and not too expensive.
